Ryan ‘The Tank Engine’ Thomas, the final addition to Bellator’s welterweight tournament, could be the comeback story of Bellator Season 2 as well as a dangerous contender.

The Central Illinois native is looking for redemption after suffering back-to-back losses in the UFC, which subsequently released the young welterweight.  After his release Thomas sought a nine-month hiatus from professional fighting to reflect on his future in the sport. Before long the Tank Engine returned the cage with a vengeance, securing a triangle choke submission against Ryan Stout just 1:39 into Round 1 last August in Indiana.

Thomas has earned the opportunity to faceoff against some of the toughest competitors when the eight-man Bellator Welterweight tournament commences in April 2010.  Thomas join Ben Askren, Dan Hornbuckle, “Judo” Jim Wallhead, Jacob McClintock, Steve Carl, Sean Pierson, and Brett Cooper in the tournament.

Overall, the group boasts a combined winning percentage of .816 (89 wins, 20 losses).

With only one of the eight fighters advancing as the top-contender to fight against current Bellator Welterweight Champion Lyman Good, Thomas will have the opportunity to showcase his fighting skills to world.
