Undefeated featherweight William Romero was added to the Season 2 tournament in early 2010, helping to further bolster an impressive roster of 145 lbs. fighters. With roughly two years of professional fighting experience under his belt, Romero brings a unique combination of strength, speed and stamina to competition.

Romero began his professional fighting career a bit later than most of his featherweight competitors, but at the age of 27 he is already one of Canada's most talked-about mixed martial artists. Boasting an unblemished pro MMA record of 5-0, he was recently touted by MMAcanada.net — one of that country’s top MMA news sources — as “the real deal.”

Romero was born in Canada but spent a large chunk of his childhood living in Ecuador, where his family traces its ancestry. At 17, he enlisted as an infantry soldier in the Canadian Armed Forces, became a paratrooper and served overseas in Bosnia. While serving in the military, he began watching MMA fights in his spare time and was intrigued by the sport. When he left the military at the age of 25, he took up Muay Thai and began training with prominent Romanian-born instructor Alin Halmagean.

Romero currently trains at Iron Tiger Muay Thai in his hometown of Stoney Brook, Canada just south of Toronto.

He began his career with back-to-back wins over Mike Roberts, one of which he earned by TKO and the other coming via submission. Romero returned to the cage less than two months later to pick up another Round 2 submission (Triangle Choke) victory against Sean Tourand to cap off his first year of fighting.

In early 2009, Romero tested his record against Michael Gagnon, and improved his record to 4-0 after a unanimous decision in his favor. In his most recent bout, Romero achieved a career highlight by defeating Guillaume Lamarche by KO just 17 seconds into Round 1.

Romero will make his U.S. fighting debut when the Bellator Featherweight World Championship begins in April 2010. He will compete against top competition in the 145 lbs. division of the tournament alongside seven other title hopefuls for the chance to emerge as the No. 1 contender and enter a title match against current Bellator Featherweight Champion, Joe Soto
